Why the knicker wetting?
Forget the game, it's in the past

Loads of players to come back. We have lost many first games before and came back to have a good season.

Old Trafford is out the way, now onwards and upwards for me.

Amautovic is as Austrian as I am. He's a Croat/Serb.

That's Austrians for you, one minute they are harmlessly prancing about in lederhosen the next they are jackbooting down the Champs-Elyese

Thought Arnie played okay. He's the ultimate joker in the pack. You think he's just a big dozy Austrian and then he whips out some magic.

Its a fairly worrying situation when your manager is a clueless idiot.

I think Obiang is mostly at fault for that goal, and I don't want to take away from lukaku's run/finish and Rashford's through ball, but Reid & Oggers were poor in that counter. Reid was stuck in no man's land and ogbonna just let lukaku go. We were not outnumbered just completely disorganised.

Hope Marcus Rushford's family were at the game, he will never look so world class again.
Amautovic has the makings of a Snodgrass /Ayew signing - not quite what we wanted, not sure what to do with him, fuck him about until he loses whatever he had at his previous club
And Harte is just as flawed as ever.
But we will be fine once we get our players fit and we did beat Arsenal 2 years ago

Re: Why the knicker wetting?
Guardiola was brought in to win the CL simple as that. He is now facing the reality of managing in a league where he has, for the first time, more than one or two serious rivals for the top domestic prize. His solution will be the simplistic one which is to buy better players.

Re: Why the knicker wetting?
No one compared bilic to Guardiola.

Simply making the point that he was lauded by all and sundry as a genius. He isn’t. He’s just had the best players to work with. Pretty straightforward.

Re: Why the knicker wetting?
For clarity stewie, I wanted an extra defender to man mark Lukaku and leave Reid and Ogbonna to zonally mark whoever else got through our midfield 3 because Fernandes, Obiang and Noble were always going to be 2nd best to Pogba, Mata and Matic.

Masuaku is not a full back - he's a wing back and at his best when attacking not defending. I remember that Man City also play 3 at the back which is what Zabaleta would most recently be used to but he wasn't as much the problem as Ayew played wide was.

3-5-1-1 would have done me fine. We may well have still lost but frustrate Man Utd for long enough and opportunities would have occurred and there was always the chance of a draw...

Re: Why the knicker wetting?
When we finished seventh what made the difference to me was the fact that we got over 60 points for the first time and also had a positive goal difference. We'd never done that before and the only record we did not better was our number of wins in a PL season. On top of that we topped the London PL league.

By the same token simply saying we finished eleventh fails to acknowledge that for the forty odd points we scored our performances over a ( difficult ) season were regularly below par with more than several shockers along the way.

I don't see he point of comparing Bilic with Guardiola because one is a top manager and the other is not.

"Nothing childish about it – you said we needed an extra defender, and in your next post that we needed another midfielder..."

No I didn't. You're lying.

“The buck always stops with the manager, he is the one setting the side up, organising and motivating them, he gets the credit when successful and the blame for failure.”

Correct, and as I said earlier, more than ever in this day and age. Management has become a cult, an obsession.

I kept hearing for years how PEP was the bestest thing ever. A managerial genius who would revolutionise English football. He came in, found a couple of ageing full backs that he failed to replace, spent elsewhere and achieved precisely fuck all. Having spent £150 million or something equally fucking ludicrous on 3 full backs, he’ll be back to being the bestest thing ever if he wins the league this year.

All a bit of a nonsense really.
Bilic has had two seasons, and finished 7th & 11th. That’s more than acceptable for me.

Re: Why the knicker wetting?
I think that a manager cannot be blamed for the consequences of an individual errors. Games are littered with errors and good teams capitalise on them. So Matic closing down on a lethargic Obiang was part of the effort but it needed class from Rashford to set up an opportunity and the skill of Lukaku to finish it off with a well taken goal.

However Bilic must shoulder some blame for his team's performance. I reckon we will play better at Southampton.

You are using mistakes to make excuses for Billic Stewie, there are dozens of mistakes in every match, it is inevitable even at the top level.
It is how you react to it and exploit the oppos mistakes that matter.

The buck always stops with the manager, he is the one setting the side up, organising and motivating them, he gets the credit when successful and the blame for failure.
